Once students have demonstrated that they have mastered all the skills that are necessary for promotion they will be
notified that they will be allowed to attend the promotion test. All students may watch the promotion tests, but only those
authorized may participate.
How do I get on the promotion list?
Approximately 1 to 2 weeks before the test all qualified students will be allowed to participate in a pretest. At this
pretest students will perform the exact skills that they will need to do at the real test. If at this time the student’s
skills match what is necessary for promotion then they will be allowed to attend the promotion test.
When will I promote?
Everyone promotes at different speeds. There is no way to know for sure when a person will be qualified to promote,
until they are. The instructors will always tell a student what they need to work on to promote, but they cannot tell a student
when he will promote unless he is already on the list.
How long does the test take?
Students should show up at the test by 9:30, in order to have time to warm up before the test starts at 10:00. There
is no set time for the length of the test; it depends on how many students need to test. It could be done by 11:30, or it
could be 2:30. Some months are typically longer than others, ask your instructor for details.
Can I leave in the middle of the test?
Yes, but you will fail the test. All testing students must stay for the duration of the test.
What is the cost of the test?
The cost of the test is $40, payable at the test. Black belt tests cost $150.
Can I videotape/take pictures of the test?
Yes, but be sure not to flash while your subject is looking at you. It may cause them to lose concentration.
What if I fail the test?
Students who fail tests will be allowed to test in subsequent months, as soon as their instructor feels that they
are ready. Students performing Black Belt tests must wait three months before they are allowed to test again. Students do
not have to pay again for their retest.
